Meet the ONS Staff

Welcome to the staff page of the Office for New Students!

Kyle Baillie

Kyle Baillie, Manager

Kyle holds his Masters degree in Leadership and Public Administration from Centenary College in Hackettstown, New Jersey. He also holds a Bachelor's degree in International Political Science and a Bachelor's degree in 20th Century History from Centenary College. During his undergraduate career Kyle was involved in various aspects of leadership from student governance to athletics and residence life. Prior to his arrival at Douglas College, Kyle worked as a Director of Co-Curricular Transitions, where he managed student leaders, orientation, and co-curricular activities, and was involved with recruitment and the First Year Experience.

As the Manager of the Office for New Students, Kyle is responsible for organizing and managing recruitment and retention activities conducted through, and in conjunction with, the Office for New Students. Kyle is married and has a dog and a cat. When not in the office he is involved in lacrosse and mountain biking, and he hopes to start his PH.D in the near future.

Eric Glanville

Eric Glanville, Student Development Coordinator

Eric went to high school in Burnaby, BC, and completed his undergraduate degree in Psychology at SFU. As a student leader he helped to produce freshmen orientation programs, campus spirit events, and Western Canada's largest outdoor dance party. Since then he's spoken about academic and professional success strategies with more than 3,250 students at high schools, colleges and universities across the province.

As the Student Development Coordinator for Douglas College, Eric is responsible for new student recruitment and transition programs as well as campus life and student leadership activities. "I love meeting new students, and helping them define and achieve their personal and professional goals," he says.  "The 'college years' are an exciting time of self-discovery and growth -- it's a privilege to be a part of that experience for the students at Douglas College."

Mel Head Shot

Melody McKiernan, Student Outreach Coordinator (On leave until October 2010)

Melody did her undergraduate studies in French Language and Literature at the University of Victoria. While at UVic, she was involved in various facets of student life. Melody was a teaching assistant in the French and Physical Education departments. Most significantly, she served as an Orientation Coordinator for three years. She recruited, trained, scheduled and organized programs for new students.

As a Student Outreach Coordinator, Melody will have her hands full with promoting, coordinating, implementing, organizing and facilitating strategies and programs for student recruitment and orientation. As a new member of the Office for New Students at Douglas College, she looks forward to building great relations with the other staff as well as finding new and exciting ways to make the educational experience more rewarding.

Zabeen

Zebeen Panju, Student Outeach Coordinator (Temporary)

Zebeen graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree with a Major in Economics from UBC. She continued her studies and completed her Diploma in Adult Education from UBC, her Personal and Corporate Coach training from CoachU, and her Career Development Practitioner Certificate from Douglas College. She is currently in the Print Futures Program and the Community and Workplace Leadership program at Douglas College and is on her way to completing her Provincial Instructors Diploma at VCC.

Before coming to Douglas, she spent 14 years working with youth and adults on Income Assistance and Employment Insurance. Her training in various vocational and personal assessment tools helped her create a collaborative realistic plan towards employment for her clients. She ran a multitude of workshops on career and job search as well as life skills.

She is the newest member of the ONS Team and will be working as a Student Outreach Coordinator. "I am quite excited about being part of the ONS team. I look forward to working with the Student Ambassadors and the folks at the welcome centre. My intention is to make college life fun, rewarding and a great experience which will be remembered for times to come."
